High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! XV Solos for a German Flute, Hoboy, or Violin with a Thorough Bass for the Harpsichord or Bass Violin was published by Friedrich Chrysander in 1879. The 72 page volume contains sonatas, for various instruments, composed by George Frideric Handel. The words on the cover of the publication are: Sonate da Camera di G.F.Handel. The publication includes all the sonatas as published by Walsh in 1732, and those sonatas, as well as extras included by Chrysander, include the body of work that is known as Handel's "Opus 1". In addition to the 15 sonatas indicated by the title of the publication, Chrysander appended the score for an additional four sonatas. The musical instrument mentioned at the start of each sonata does not always match the instrument for which the work was originally written by Handel, however Chrysander was aware that the sale of the publication would be enhanced by the inclusion of a wide variety of instruments.

Johann Jakob Froberger

Johann Jakob Froberger was a German Baroque composer, keyboard virtuoso, and organist. He was among the most famous composers of the era and influenced practically every major composer in Europe by developing the genre of keyboard suite and contributing greatly to the exchange of musical traditions through his many travels. He is also remembered for his highly idiomatic and personal descriptive harpsichord pieces, which are among the earliest known examples of program music. Only two of Froberger's many compositions were published during his lifetime, but his music was very widely spread in manuscript copies and he was one of the very few 17th century composers who were never entirely forgotten. His works were studied in the 18th century (although perhaps not very extensively, and certainly without influence on the emerging Classical style) by Handel, Bach and, extraordinarily, even Mozart and Beethoven

DAS ALTE WERK was inaugurated in 1958 with the release of 7' discs of Gregorian chant and music by the medieval French composer Guillaume de Machaut, quickly gaining a reputation for historically informed, high-quality recordings. There soon followed LPs of harpsichord sonatas by Scarlatti, concerti grossi by Handel and partitas for solo violin by Bach. The signing of Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Gustav Leonhardt, Frans Brüggen and Jaap Schröder ushered in a new era. The rediscovery of the authentic sound of period instruments, scholarly research into original sources and the obvious delight the label’s pioneering young artists had in their music-making combined to offer the listener new and fascinating musical experiences. As the field of the early music revival shed light on forgotten masterpieces and new paths were explored, DAS ALTE WERK rapidly became the touchstone by which other labels were judged, not least for Harnoncourt and Leonhardt’s epoch-making complete series of Bach’s sacred cantatas. “There cannot be any doubt that one finds no better recording of the Musical Offering” The Musical Quarterly
